Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 pounds beef oxtails
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked or ground black pepper
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 cups beef broth or water
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
  • Additional salt and pepper for taste

Instructions:

  1. Season the oxtails with 2 teaspoons of kosher salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
  2. Drizzle Worcestershire sauce over the oxtails, ensuring they’re well coated.
  3. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of flour over the oxtails, coating them evenly.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the oxtails and brown them on all sides.
  5. Remove the browned oxtails from the pan and place them in a slow cooker.
  6. If there are burnt pieces in the pan, pour out the oil, strain it, clean the pan, then return the strained oil to the pan.
  7. Gradually add the remaining flour to the pan, whisking continuously until it turns brown and resembles chunky peanut butter.
  8. Slowly pour in the beef broth or water, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
  9. Bring the gravy to a full boil, then reduce the heat to medium. Add the sliced onions and garlic, stirring well.
  10. Do a taste test and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
  11. Pour the gravy over the oxtails in the slow cooker, ensuring they are fully covered.
  12. Set the slow cooker to high and cook for 8 hours.
  13. Serve the oxtails with mashed potatoes, rice, or your preferred side dish.
