Ingredients:
- 1 large apple (a tart variety like Granny Smith is preferred)
- 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cups sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup (6 oz.) 7-Up or any similar carbonated drink
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven and Prep Dish:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
- Prepare the Apples:
- Peel and core the apple. Cut into 8-10 wedges.
- Pat the apple wedges dry with a paper towel.
- Wrap the Apples:
- Separate the crescent dough into triangles.
- Place an apple wedge on the wide end of each triangle and roll it towards the pointed end, enclosing the apple.
- Pinch the ends to seal and place the dumpling in the prepared baking dish.
- Make the Sauce:
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the sugar and cinnamon, and cook until the mixture thickens slightly.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Assemble:
- Pour the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.
- Pour the 7-Up around the edges of the dumplings, being careful not to pour it over the dough to prevent it from becoming soggy.
- Bake:
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes or until the dumplings are golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
- Cool and Serve:
- Remove the dumplings from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
- Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Enjoy your homemade apple dumplings with the comforting blend of soft baked apples and flaky pastry, topped with a sweet, vanilla-infused sauce
