Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons hot water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in hot water. Add this mixture to the batter along with the salt, and mix until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour until a soft dough forms. Then, fold in the semisweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts, if using, until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Drop the cookie dough by large spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving some space between each cookie for spreading.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are nicely browned and the centers are set.
  8. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, indulge in these mouthwatering chocolate chip cookies! Enjoy with a glass of cold milk for the ultimate treat.
