Creamy Chicken and Dumplings

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2/3 cup milk

Directions:

  1. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine the cream of chicken soup and chicken broth. Mix well until homogeneous.
  2. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Add the shredded cooked chicken to the pot and stir to combine.
  4. Simmer for 5 minutes to warm up the chicken.
  5. While the chicken mixture is simmering, prepare the dumplings. In a mixing bowl, combine the Bisquick, garlic powder, salt, Italian seasoning, and milk. Stir until a thick and sticky dough forms.
  6. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture into the chicken mixture over low heat. Spread the batter evenly over the surface of the pot.
  7. Cover the pan with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Cook the chicken with the dumplings for about 15 minutes, or until the dumplings are tender and cooked through. Avoid lifting the lid too much to conserve heat and steam.
  8. Once the dumplings are done, gently swirl the pan to mix them into the broth. Taste the broth and adjust seasoning if needed, adding salt, pepper, or other desired herbs and spices.
  9. Serve the creamy chicken and dumplings hot in bowls. Ladle chicken, dumplings, and gravy into each serving. Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.
