Ingredients:
For the Doughnuts:
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 teaspoons boiling water
- 1 teaspoon dry yeast
- 8 ounces flour (just under 2 cups)
- 1 1/2 ounces sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 ounce butter, at room temperature
- 1 pinch salt
- Oil for frying
For the Glaze:
- 1/3 cup butter
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 teaspoons warm water
Instructions:
- In a measuring jug, combine milk and boiling water. Add a teaspoon of sugar and yeast. Gently stir, then leave it in a warm place until the yeast activates and froths.
- In a bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Cut the butter in with your hands or using a pastry blender until it resembles crumbs. Add eggs and yeast mixture to the flour mixture and mix until smooth, about 5 minutes.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured counter and knead for 5 to 10 minutes until you feel a spring and small bubbles form under the surface. Place it back in the bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise for about an hour until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, place the dough on the counter and cut it into four pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 1 to 1.5 inches wide. Cut strips approximately 2.5 cm long, shape into balls with your hands, and place on a baking tray or wire rack to rise.
- Cover the dough balls with a cloth to allow them to rise while heating the oil to 375 degrees F.
- Fry the doughnuts until golden brown on each side, about 2 minutes. Fry in small batches to avoid crowding.
- Drain on a paper towel or wire rack before glazing. Make sure to glaze them while they’re still warm for that delicious coverage.
- For the Glaze: In a separate bowl, melt butter, then add confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and warm water. Whisk until smooth.
- Dip each doughnut into the glaze, ensuring even coverage.
- Enjoy these homemade Krispy Kremes.
