Old-Fashioned Fudge

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Hershey’s cocoa
  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 5-ounce can Carnation Evaporated Milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Nuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients:
    • Gather all the ingredients needed for the fudge.
  2. Combine Sugar and Cocoa:
    • In a saucepan, mix together the sugar and cocoa until well combined.
  3. Add Butter and Evaporated Milk:
    • Add the stick of salted butter and the can of evaporated milk to the saucepan with the sugar and cocoa mixture.
  4. Heat and Stir:
    • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir the mixture continuously until it starts to boil.
  5. Boil and Stir:
    • Once the mixture comes to a boil, continue stirring continuously for 7 minutes.
  6. Remove from Heat and Add Vanilla:
    • After 7 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Continue Stirring:
    • Keep stirring the mixture continuously for an additional 3 minutes.
  8. Pour into Baking Dish:
    • Butter a baking dish or line it with parchment paper. Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  9. Allow to Set:
    • Let the fudge cool and set at room temperature. This may take a couple of hours.
  10. Cut and Serve:
    • Once the fudge has set, cut it into squares or rectangles using a sharp knife. Serve and enjoy your delicious old-fashioned fudge!

Note:

  • You can add nuts to the fudge mixture if desired. Simply stir them in along with the vanilla extract before pouring the mixture into the baking dish.
  • Store any leftover fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
