Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 8 oz provolone cheese slices
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Preparation:

  1. Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef with the garlic powder until fully cooked. Once browned, remove the beef from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of butter, chopped onions, and diced green bell pepper. Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are slightly softened.
  3. Make the Sauce: Stir ketchup and Worcestershire sauce into the skillet with the vegetables. In a small bowl, dissolve 1 tablespoon of cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of beef broth, then add it to the skillet along with the remaining beef broth. Mix well to combine.
  4. Simmer: Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for at least 30 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld together. Adjust the seasoning with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, according to your taste.
  5. Add Cheese: Remove the skillet from the heat and lay the provolone cheese slices over the top of the beef and vegetable mixture. Let the residual heat melt the cheese.
  6. Assemble and Serve: Toast the hamburger buns until golden and crispy. Spoon the beef and cheese mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns. Cover with the top halves and serve hot.

Enjoy your Philly Cheese Steak Burgers with a side of fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal that’s sure to satisfy your cheesesteak cravings!
