Amish Cinnamon Bread

Amish Cinnamon Bread is a soft, buttery quick bread swirled with cinnamon sugar. It’s simple to make, requires no yeast, and yields two loaves that are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or gifting.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups buttermilk (or homemade with milk + vinegar/lemon juice)
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2/3 cup sugar (for cinnamon mixture)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Equipment

  • 2 loaf pans (8x4 or 9x5)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two loaf pans and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream softened butter, 2 cups sugar, and eggs until fluffy.
  3. Add buttermilk, flour, and baking soda. Stir until batter is smooth.
  4. Spread ¼ of the batter into each loaf pan.
  5. Sprinkle ¾ of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter in both pans.
  6. Top with the remaining batter.
  7. Use a knife to gently swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter.
  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let loaves cool in the pans for 20 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy.

Notes

  • This bread makes two loaves – perfect for freezing or gifting.
  • For a bakery-style finish, dust cooled loaves with powdered sugar.
  • Serve warm for maximum flavor.
