- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar.
- Combine melted butter and milk, then stir into the dry mixture lightly.
- Grease the baking dish and add the apple filling evenly.
- Spoon topping batter over apples and gently smooth.
- Sprinkle nutmeg over the top.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbly around edges.
- Let rest 10–15 minutes before serving.
Notes
You may use frozen apples—just thaw and drain first. Brown sugar in the topping adds a caramel-like richness. Add nuts for extra crunch. Best served warm, especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
