  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • large mixing bowl
  • medium mixing bowl
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • whisk or spoon
  • oven

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Stir gently and set aside.
  2. Place butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and set it in the oven until fully melted. Remove the dish carefully once melted.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add milk, whisking until smooth.
  4. Pour batter evenly over the melted butter without stirring. Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Do not mix.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the cobbler is golden brown and set in the center.
  6. Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm.

Notes

  • Fresh peaches provide the best flavor, but frozen peaches are a reliable alternative
  • Adjust sugar based on peach sweetness
  • Cobbler thickens as it cools, so allow resting time before slicing
  • Best served warm for optimal texture and flavor
