Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Equipment

  • saucepan
  • mixing bowls
  • Electric hand mixer
  • Piping bag or spoon
  • Air fryer
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Pastry brush (optional)

Method

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.
  2. Reduce heat and add flour gradually, stirring constantly until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the pan.
  3. Remove from heat and transfer dough to a mixing bowl. Let cool for 4–5 minutes.
  4. Add egg and vanilla essence, mixing with an electric mixer until smooth and glossy.
  5. Transfer dough to a piping bag or prepare to spoon portions.
  6. Preheat air fryer to 375°F and spray the basket lightly with nonstick spray.
  7. Pipe or drop bite-sized churros into the basket, leaving space between each.
  8. Lightly brush with melted butter if desired.
  9. Air fry for 10–12 minutes until golden brown, working in batches as needed.
  10. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl.
  11. Transfer hot churros into cinnamon sugar and toss gently to coat evenly.
  12. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Lightly spraying the churros before coating helps the cinnamon sugar adhere better. Adjust cooking time slightly depending on your air fryer size and power. Serve immediately for the best crisp exterior.
