Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Beat the eggs: In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs until frothy. Add sugar, softened butter, and flour. Beat the mixture until it becomes smooth and well combined.
  3. Incorporate ingredients: Stir in the buttermilk, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and freshly grated nutmeg. Combine until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Prepare the pie: Pour the combined mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
  5. Bake the pie: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake until the center is firm, which usually takes about 40 to 60 minutes.
  6. Check for doneness: Once done, remove the pie from the oven. Allow it to cool for about an hour before serving.

Tips:

  • To prevent the edges of the pie crust from browning too quickly, cover the pie with foil for the remaining baking time.
  • You can determine the readiness of the pie when the top is lightly browned, and the center of the pie still has a slight jiggle. It will continue to set as it cools. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out mostly clean when the pie is ready.
